JOURNEY is the fruit of an experiment in spiritual direction by mail based loosely on The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. It chronicles the day-by-day growth of a soul reaching out to God.

Please see Introduction

FEBRUARY 18, 1986

I read Revelations 3: 14-22 and lingered over “Whoever is dear to me, I reprove and chastise.” This and Jeremiah 18: 4, the potter remaking the object that had turned out badly, spoke to me of how my Father is remaking me. When I tried to live without Him, rejecting His love, I made a mess of my life. But now, He is remaking me into what He wants me to be, and this is what I want Him to do.

Wisdom 11: 21-27 and Job 1: 21 reminded me that I am nothing without Him. Yet, through 1 John 4: 10, He reassured me of His love for me. That the God of glory of Isaiah 6: 1-4 should even take notice of me is a source of amazement. Yet, daily, He speaks to me, teaches me, and is my loving Father. He really does love me!

I spent some time talking to Him, thanking Him for His love, asking His continued efforts to remake me, and the grace to always hear Him when He knocks at my door. I prayed, too, that others may hear and respond to Him. It’s very sad that so many don’t realize what they are missing.

The time went moderately fast. This brings to an end this series of meditations. Unless a new series arrives today, I’ll begin using the additional texts tomorrow.
